01Who is responsible
Vladyslav Kaptenko runs Art of DS and is responsible for your personal data (the “controller”). For anything about it, write to support@artofds.com.
- We collect what it takes to run your account, your access and, with lifetime access, your progress and your certificates — nothing more.
- No advertising, no tracking cookies, and we never sell your data.
- Your data is stored in the European Union.
- Your account page exports everything we hold about you, and deletes it.
02What we collect, why, and for how long
| What | Why | Legal basis | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your email address; your account’s language and time zone | To run your account and send you sign-in emails | Contract | Until you delete your account |
| Sign-in records: the time, the IP address and the browser | To keep accounts safe | Legitimate interest (security) | A few days, in our database provider’s logs |
| Your access: how you got it (payment or promo code), and when | To give you what you bought | Contract | Until you delete your account |
| From Paddle: the payment’s amount, date, status and reference. Paddle itself keeps your payment details and invoice | To record the purchase, and handle refunds and disputes | Contract; legal obligation | Personal parts erased when you delete your account; an anonymous record of the payment kept for accounting |
| With lifetime access, your progress: pages opened and read, quiz answers, and when | To show your progress and sync it across your devices | Contract | Until you delete it on the Progress page, or your account |
| With lifetime access, your certificate attempts: the questions drawn for you, when you started, your score and your grade | To grade each attempt on its own questions before its time runs out, and to allow one attempt a day | Contract | Until you delete your account |
| A certificate you earn: its number, grade, date and topics, and the name you put on it | To issue the certificate and let anyone you show it to check it | Contract | The name until you withdraw the certificate or delete your account; the number stays, marked withdrawn and with no name, so that a copy cannot pass as current |
| The messages you send us, by email or the support form, with your address and the page you wrote from | To answer you | Legitimate interest | Up to two years |
| Server logs: IP address, browser, the address asked for, the time | To deliver the site and keep it secure | Legitimate interest (security) | As long as our hosting provider keeps its logs |
A quiz answered without lifetime access is checked on our server and not kept. We send no emails but the sign-in emails you ask for and replies to yours.
We use Supabase (our database and sign-in, on servers in Ireland), a hosting provider and an email service, which handle your data only to run the site for us.
Visits are counted anonymously; see below.
03Visit counts
We count visits with Umami, which sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser. It records the page’s address (without anything after “?” or “#”), the page that linked to it, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and country — from your IP address, which is not stored — and clicks on a few buttons. None of it identifies you, and a browser that sends Do Not Track is not counted at all. We do this out of a legitimate interest in knowing which pages are read.
04Certificates
A certificate is meant to be shown. Its page, with its image and PDF, shows the name you put on it, its grade, date, number and the topics of the test to anyone who has the number or the link, and so does the preview when the link is shared. Nothing else about you is shown: not your email address, and not your score. Search engines are asked not to list the page.
You choose the name, and once the certificate is issued it stays as it is; write to support@artofds.com to correct it. You can withdraw a certificate on your account page at any time: the name is erased and its page says it was withdrawn. Deleting your account does the same for all of them. Your certificates also show as withdrawn while you are without lifetime access, after a refund or during a dispute over a payment.
05Your rights
You can get a copy of your data (Export my data on your account page), have it corrected, have it deleted (Delete my account, or Delete my progress on the Progress page for your progress alone), and restrict or object to how we use it. For anything the account page does not do, write to support@artofds.com; we answer within one month.
You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
Art of DS is not meant for children under 16. If this policy changes, the new version is published here with its date.
